Excerpt from Fifth Annual Report of the Secretary of the Connecticut Board of Agriculture: 1871-72
Sec. 9. The secretary shall visit different sections of the state for the purpose of inquiring into the methods and wants of practical hus bandry; ascertaining the adaptation of agricultural products to soil, climate, and markets; encouraging the establishment of farmers clubs,' agricultural libraries and reading rooms, and of disseminating useful information in agriculture by means of lectures, or otherwise, and shall annually make a detailed report to the board.
